The staff at Brother André extend a warm welcome to all of our returning students and parents as we begin the 2009-10 school year. A special welcome to our new grade 9 students.
Our staff is committed to developing and supporting a community of engaged learners who strive to improve, achieve and contribute in a respectful, safe and inclusive learning environment.
Brother André is a place where students want to be! They are engaged in their learning and enjoy coming to school. A wide range of co-curricular activities are available and accessible to all students. Participation in co-curricular programs is strongly encouraged.
Our school offers students a variety of courses and programs from grade 9 to grade 12. We began this school year with a population of 1510 students. Our population generally reflects the population of Markham, coming from diverse ethno cultural backgrounds and a wide socio-economic mix.
Brother André is a caring school and community environment that stresses tolerance and acceptance of others, commitment to our Catholic faith and high academic standards. We strive to provide a learning environment where models of gospel values and Catholic doctrine, teachings and beliefs are an integral part of the daily life of our school.
We are extremely proud of our balanced religion, academics, arts, technology and athletic programs. We offer a well rounded values centered education to help students make good choices for the future and allows us to reflect and serve the entire community as we prepare our students for post-secondary careers and education. The curriculum is planned and provides in the school a broad balanced and relevant experience for the needs and aspirations of all students.
Accordingly appropriate assessment procedures are regularly employed to motivate and encourage student success. All subjects meet Ontario Secondary School curriculum guidelines and with gospel values of Jesus Christ and with sound educational practice.
Brother André is a community where: · students feel safe, valued and inclusive · students value and model diversity and inclusion · students have equal access to all resources · students have opportunities to
collaborate and succeed. · students are engaged. · students are taught to take responsibility for their learning ·students are encouraged to reach their potential · students demonstrate respect and compassion for each other and society. · students are provided with varied opportunities and pathways to grow and achieve · students are recipients of differentiated instruction to foster success. · students are influenced by teaching practices that are reflective of collaborative learning environments.
In partnership with the home, parish and community we ensure that the teachings and values of Jesus Christ are integrated in all aspects of school life. To achieve this goal our staff has developed a school continuous improvement plan founded in our Catholic School Graduate Expectations. This year we will continue to use as our foundations the three pillars of our system;
1. Quality Education for All
2. Safe and Caring Schools
3. Catholic Communities of Faith
I wish all of our students, parents and staff the very best in 2009-10. May we be guided “In Luminus Tuo” and enjoy many blessings and accomplishments.
